Need advice on squirrel control

Hi, does any of your’s garden has been attacked by squirrels? We are having a terrible problem with them. Every morning they dig up the garden leaving small holes. They have even destroyed almost all my plants. Totally done with them! I have been cultivating my plants for 3 years. It’s almost like a vegetable garden. Peaches are my favourite which is exactly what the squirrels target. I have never had this issue for about one and half years. But now they come with their entire family to destroy my garden! I thought of using pepper spray but I am afraid it will harm fruits in the garden.

My neighbour told about a humane squirrel control method called Live trapping ( http://www.hawkeye.ca/toronto-animal-control-services-solutions/correctly-setting-wildlife-trap ) . He had done it three months before and was very effective. Have you ever tried this method?

We trap squirrels in similar cages to that. I dispatch them with an air rifle afterwards. I took 17 last year and we still didn't get to eat a single nut ourselves.

As much as I try to be friendly to our four-legged neighbors, I truly hate squirrels. They have invaded the attic here twice, doing thousands of dollars in damage to both the structure and wiring of the house, as well as consistently stripping nearly every nut off our 3 Black Walnut trees (3 years on property, maybe 1/2 of a 5-gallon bucket of nuts salvaged) and making gardening nearly impossible.

The first summer, I trapped/killed over 60 of the little buggers, the second summer was the same, this summer I finally seem to be having an effect.

(Or maybe it's the fact that the nice old lady who lived 3 houses up the block passed away and stopped dumping a 10 pound bag of birdseed off her back porch every week.)


One word of caution: ALWAYS check your Local/State/Province/ETC regulations to make sure that you are dealing with the issue legally.

For instance, in my location, it is legal to trap/kill "destructive" pests but not "nuisance" pests. As long as they keep eating my garden/nuts, they qualify as "destructive". If they get smart and just raid the bird feeders and trash cans, I have to stop taking them out.

Also, be aware that it is illegal in many places to relocate any trapped animal in order to minimize the spread of disease and parasites.

There is a family of squirrels using the back end of my yard as their barracks. The dogs are constantly going after them and tearing up the decking and around the fence going after them. So far, the little tree rats have stayed one step ahead of the dogs, but sooner or later their luck will run out.
