Yes, that would be very smart to account for that 8.5% in your budget.

"Items given from one individual to another are covered by gift tax laws. In most circumstances, the receiver of the gift isn't liable for taxes on the value of the gift, while donors may gift up to $13,000 per year per person without invoking the gift tax. Amounts more than $13,000 are subject to taxation, but it's the donor who is assessed taxes on the value of the gift."

Donations from your employer are not the only type that may need to be reported as income. Donations given with the expectation of services rendered or goods provided are treated as income and must be claimed."

so not sure if this would be considered compensation or what.. or if I would be taxed or what... i'll have to look more on that.

I think you are correct. When doing a campaign that is not above $13,000 you needn't worry about the tax implications, but just to cover my butt, please don't consider this tax advice or the final word on the manner. I personally have not worried about this when I have run campaigns for myself or my projects.

You site something about a $2,000 limit. This is in relations to individual contributions. Any individual can only give $2,000 per contribution and a maximum of 3 contributions from that individual per campaign. So just to be clear, you can set your campaign goal at any amount. $100. or $2,000 $15,000 or $1,000,000.

I personally recommend putting this entire project into one campaign, and making a serious push on this one campaign. I think that contributors are more likely to get fired up about one big campaign, and give to it and promote it, whereas if they see you post another campaign that is related to a first one, they might feel like they already gave to that campaign and will be not as interested.

But of course, the strategy is up to you.

um... so I would need to make 'part 1' for $2000 or break it down to... part 1, uhaul costs (about $2000)... part 2, gas costs (about $800)... part 3, getting started (about $550)....

Kadence, this section you are quoting is from the "contributing" section of the WeTheTrees FAQ's. Each contributor can contribute between $5 and $2000 for each contribution (maximum three contributions per person). This does not mean that your campaign needs to be under $2000. You can set it to whatever level you like and hopefully you get the support of many, many contributors!

ok awesome (: thanks so much! I never realized I was reading about campaign on one page and donating on another page.

that makes it easier though! I can do it all in one go then. now i'm just a bit nervous about setting it too short that it wont get enough donations and i'll have to start it again /: *bites nails*

total is 3350... 8.5% of that is 284.75... new total is 3635... round out to $3,650

In tax lingo, a gift is nearly always something given without an expectation of receiving anything in return. You might be able to add some phrasing to your campaign that would totally confound people, thereby qualifying your receipts as gifts, but for the amount you want to raise it would be a waste of time.

well it keeps raining today so no video ): I really have no place to do it in the house and was hoping to use a nice field for background... but of course it's raining all darn day...

well here goes nothing... i'm uploading my video to the video site so I can edit it and put it on the campaign!!!

how long should I expect for it to be okayed after I add the video?

well nuts D: vimeo doesn't seem to like me... havin issues getting the video uploaded

alright I am going the long way around... uploading to youtube, editing down, hopefully will be enough that I can upload it to vimeo to put on the campaign...

first video was 612MB. just figured out how to see how many MB video is. and vimeo has limit of 500MB. so hopefully this video fits.... BUT just in case it doesn't (because I really like the new one I did!) is there a way I can make it fit..??

ok i'm not sure exactly how it worked but it did! hahahaha!

ended up redoing the video slightly shorter (luckily ended up likin it better too)... upload to youtube and edit and add pics I wanted... download back to computer.... says its 9.05MB! the original plain video before uploaded to youtube says 193MB!

so I don't know how exactly it works but I managed to get it! just waitin for it to "convert" on the site so I can link it on wethetrees! (:
