Cured Pork for Nosebleeds

So I just came across this report that talks about how great raw cured pork is at stopping hemorrhaging. It actually talks about using "cured salted pork crafted as a nasal tampon" with incredible results for major nosebleeds. Has anyone else heard of this? It does mention that it used to be pretty common knowledge but went by the wayside as modern medicine took hold.

I wonder if it's the salt. To test this, a finger could be rolled in powdered salt and inserted. We've all done it before, but not with the salt.
