I have just completed my PDC and started practicing. My first project is being done for free for a friend. His site is located in Russia, not far from Moscow.
I have more or less completed the design, but am not sure what to do with the slopes, created artificially in order to direct the water from the pond, which is overflowing every spring.
I would like to arrange a small meditation area by the pond, surrounded by flower beds, which will in their turn be followed by vegetable beds. And I would like to use the slopes correctly.

The first picture shows the pond and the slopes as they are. Below it are my suggestions, and I cannot deside which one is correct.
In my first suggestion I presume, that the beds shall let the water flow by to the edge of the site, where a small swale can be made and some water-loving plants, like irises, can grow. But will not the water wash away the nutrients from the beds? Shall I surround the beds with stones to prevent them from leaching too much?
Hence my second suggestion: to create kind of swales to stop the water and keep the nutrients in the beds. Now I wonder if the plants' roots will rot or not in the early spring, when the water is high.
I would be very grateful for any help or advice on this question!
