Hello fellow permies! I've been working on a software project for about a year now. I've been building a way to track and store observations using my iPhone, iPad and general web browser. I created a website and mobile iOS application named LogVine. I designed it so I can track my own garden, pond, beer making, childrens illnesses, etc., etc. Today, I'm bringing it into the permies forum in hopes that I can make some new friends here and share it openly with everyone. The software is free and I'd love some feedback from anyone that is willing to give it a try. My email is chris AT logvine DOT com if you'd like to connect directly with me.

If you're interested in how it works, you simply just enter in a subject, a category and finally some data. Adding a date is optional as it will default to the current date/time. The new version 1.1 of the iOS platform supports uploading images with your observations.

Logs could then be as simple as: (* - subject, # - category)
*Compost #churned
*Garden #tomatoes compost
*Garden #fertilized
*pond #water backflush
*pond #pH 7.1

All data points are graphable, but the graphs really favor numeric data points.

I'm really looking forward to getting some feedback from anyone will to use the software.

Website: https://logvine.com
iOS Application: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/logvine/id946776763?mt=8

Kind Regards,
Chris

Minor edit here. It was reported to me that my GoDaddy SSL certificate is throwing fits on the iOS Safari browser during account confirmation. If you are seeing an image such as the one I attached during the confirmation process, please just go ahead and click the "continue" button. I'll be upgrading the SSL certificate in coming months to a GeoTrust one and that should get rid of this issue once and for all! Sorry folks for the inconvenience.

Change object, predicate etc to Who, did What, to Which, When, for How much, and offer examples.
Subject becomes Who (Sarah or I)
Predicate becomes Did what (watered, planted, weeded)
ETC.

Include the (suggestions) next to the input for those needing help.

Include a reminder function for the next version of the event, I want to water my avocado every 4 days(email reminder), Completed task, check mark logging the day.

Good Luck and I'll continue to try your web version, I don't drink the Apple juice myself so a web version or a future Android version would be a nice addition.

Just a brief response here. Thanks everyone for the feedback thus far.

Late last night I was able to remedy the SSL Certificate issue I mentioned in the original post. I ended up having to purchase a GeoTrust certificate which seems to avoid any iOS Safari root certificate trust issues.

Rick Howd, thank you for the input you had on the thread (late last night). I'm definitely open to changing up the nomenclature used. I already updated the website last night changing the term "predicate" to "category". However, I really like the idea you prosented with the "Who", "What" concept. This is something that I'll continue to noodle on and see if there is a way I can provide better examples as well as a more intuitive model.

With regard to any future state, I do have a plan to begin development on an Android version in coming weeks. I'll keep everyone posted on that endeavor. The website version of this application is very much under-developed compared to the iOS (Apple) version. I'll try and continue to bring it up and evolve it into a more functional interface, though I'm mostly focused on the mobile side of things as that is probably what you might have with you out in the field.

Thank you to everyone here for the support!

Kind Regards,
Chris

Edit: typo fixed.

Sorry if I brought this thread down, I should have self moderated better.

I do think this style of app is very worthwhile and useful. It fits well into our "new" connected lifestyle and the concept is valid. Finding the right blend is the hard part and I'd like to help you get there!

Thanks Chris. Downloaded to my iPad. Will give it a try and get back to you with commnts. This could be very handy for me in getting the garden started. photos combined with notes to remind me what I planted where! Always a challenge for me, lol

and then, being able to log how the plants are doing through the season.

This may be just the thing to fill a gap that has been the subject of a fair bit of discussion around Permies.

@Peter Thanks! Let me know for sure if you would like to see any further enhancements.

@Shaz I just wrote down the need for email notifications. As-is, the system has iOS push notifications integrated, but that doesn't do much yet. The last week or so I started on the Android side, but have been side-tracked on a future AI integration point. I promise to jump back over and get this thing out into the Play store in the next month or so. I also still have to get image uploads integrated into the website side. The only way to currently upload images is via an iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, etc).

Thank you everyone for the feedback here!

Kind Regards,
Chris
