I am looking for comments, design ideas, suggestions on building the first Chinampas in Caribbean. I will send fotos of the area to be used to anyone interested. But basically the area is about 350'X150'. Also recently received a book in Spanish on Chinampas. We are translating into English and will be making it available on line in e book form when complete to permies and other interested world wide.

regards MrNatural

Will it be problematic building them in saltwater instead of freshwater?

Chinampas were used by the Aztecs, so I doubt this will be the first in the Caribbean .

Basically, they're a pumpless aquaponic system.  Dig a big pit (or build a big tank), build up long hills as planting areas (like hugelkulture maybe), fill the empty space with water, put in aquatic species and plant on the mounds.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
