asphalt repurpose

Im need to demo less than 70 sq feet of 2-1/2" asphalt paving... any suggestions on what to do with the old asphalt other than dropping it into my trash barrel piece by piece to send to the landfill?

Gregory Silling : If you can get to where you can dig underneath the asphalt blocks, you should be able to bust off larger pieces With a sledge hammer-for less handling

While most of the out-gasing has happened and any further weathering of petroleum products is going to be slight, Both this area and the black top have a definite ick
factor for growing food near them !

You can use all of these chunks of Blacktop as large heat absorbing land features for flowers and other non- edible plantings by bur ringing them just flush with the ground

thanks for the input since it is very old asphalt... some in gre4at shape some virtually crumble in my hands I do have plenty of room to "plant" the asphalt in an area that will be non edibles so thanks for the tip

Many municipalities have a place where asphalt can be dumped. It is run through a hammer mill and mixed up with new asphalt for road building.

Some paving companies will allow the drop off of clean material.

That's valuable to someone.
When the rains come it does this to the road to my land.

Luckily when the council resurfaced a nearby road, they dumped a big mountain of asphalt on my route. You can see I have thrown it in the channels.
Next time it rains, the silt doesn't flow so fast in the spots I have filled in, and the asphalt gets covered over and a new river forms on a different bit of road.

Each year, by doing this, the road gets better and better. The rain helps me by identifying and uncovering the weakest chunks of road, and then covering them back up for me after I've done my bit. Nature does the digging - permaculture applied to roadbuilding!
