Last weekend I did a set up a couple of nucs with splits. Thought I had eggs in both splits. Did quick check yesterday and no queen cells in the first nuc. Thankfully, the other had two sealed and two open cells so I took one sealed and put it in the queenless one. They are already behaving like a regular hive with lots of foragers coming and going. What a difference in behaviour.

BUT I think I really need to get some new specs so I can see those tiny eggs and larvae. Getting older is not fun sometimes......

One option is an optivisor. I can wear mine under the veil without too much trouble. One of the minor drawbacks is that you have to hold the frame really really close to your face, but it works like a charm to see what's going on in there.

And you can still flip it up without too much difficulty.

Or just pretty strong readers (custom made prescription if you need that) or cheaters from the pharmacy if you don't.
