For the past 27 years I have stewarded and nearly completed an off grid, "organic", eco-sustainable, agro-ecology, agro-forestry, closed-loop, food producing ecosystem, farmstead, that follows deep ecology, permaculture, and regenerative agriculture principals. It is located on the windward side of the Big Island of Hawaii along a rural coastline/beachfront. "Popai" is dedicated to serving as a learning experience and living example of "Deep Ecology" in spirit and action. We align our lifestyle with peer reviewed scientific evidence that inspires us to come up with solutions to the problems in our flawed world, hence "one planet living". As I am approaching retirement (physician, organic farmsteader, writer), there is a need for extra hands on deck, otherwise I will be forced to downsize. Popai Ecosustainble Farmstead needs willing individuals who are morally convicted to implementing Deep Ecology thought into action; persons who are a step above, the average "green", 5+R's, Woofer, traveler, adventure/experience/healing/retreat seeker who wants a quick fix, free time, and easy lesson in organic farming and whose ecofootprint is still "5 or 6 planet living" We strive to live within the means/carrying capacity of the land and within the earth fair share ecofootprint, so that we can responsibly co- create/steward a more fair, peaceful, sustainable, and healthy planet. (25 billion productive acres/7.4 billion people=3.4 acres per capita or "1planet living". Americans are using an ecofootprint of 24 acres and going upward to 31 with the use of biofuels, hence " 7to 9 Planet living") , Unless we fairly share the Earth to provide all of our needs (food, fiber, fertilizer, fodder, fuel, fencing, fineries, farm house, pharmacy, fun . . .) , there can never be, like our holiday cards say, "Peace on Earth and Good Will to All Men/People" and our world will experience more social, medical and environmental ills that we have to mitigate at spiraling costs to our pocketbook, health, society, and ultimately our life supporting ecosystems. We use bikes, a wood gasifier, rocket stoves, black soldier fly composting, vermiculture, humanure composting, coppicing Nitogen Fixing Trees (for fodder, building, green manure, fuel), raised beds, rain water catchment, tropical fruit and nut orchard and coconuts to live our lives. We have 8 milking goats and free range egg laying chickens (65 hens 10 roosters). We use hand tools such as loppers, bow saws, and hatchets. We are off grid and use solar voltaic and solar heating, etc. Are there any deep ecology minded folks out there who are philosophically and morally compelled to "one planet live" and have the arms and legs to align with their ideals? https://hawaiiorganicfarm.wordpress.com Email: drrimerdo@yahoo.com

I'm working on a move to the Big Island and looking to make a scouting trip in the next few months, work and finances permitting. I live off grid(no electricity, wood heat, composting toilet, gardening, forestry, etc) in Indiana currently. I don't have experience in tropical horticulture specifically, but am reasonably skilled with hand tools used in farming, forestry, and orchardry.
What is the nearest CDP(town like place) to your farm? How long are wanting people to stay and what arrangements are/can be made for those who do so?
