hey there's a small patch of woods near my apartment like I can throw stuff from garden into it close and I'm think of inoculating a log.

What's the best type of mushroom, log, time of the year?

I haven't grown mushrooms and did not get a kit they seem impractical.

I'll post a picture tonight when I get home of the patch of woods.

I'm from NNJ.

In your area, I wouldn't start a mushroom log outdoors until maybe April. Oysters are pretty easy. I and many think that shiitake taste better, have more nutrients, and are just as easy to inoculate.
