Cat legislation in Australia

It seems to me that there isn't many guide lines around cat control in South Australia. The population of domestic or stray cats are both not regulated. Cat owners are not legally required to de-sex their cats. Cats don't even have to be micro chipped whereas dogs do. I think it is odd that councils aren't making more of an effort to control animals that have such an impact on the environment.
Do other states have more strict rules?

Hi Eva; Being a US resident, I have no knowledge of local rules. How ever as a persian cat breeder, we have been contacted about selling cats to Australia. Let me tell you, that there sure are regulations about importing cats down under!! I don,t remember all the details... but 6 months quarantine was part of it , along with more shots than i would want.... needless to say we passed on subjecting our kittys to that.
