Using regular netting in place of electronet?

Can it be done? We had big plans to buy an electronet setup for our movable paddock shift system this summer, but then the transmission started going out in one of our vehicles.

Go figure. But we're sick of hauling our hoop coop all over the place, and it's not really big enough with our new additions this year anyway.

I'm thinking of getting something like this, but obviously a bit cheaper and maybe by the yard kinda deal, and just running that through stakes and moving the setup like that.

Has anyone ever done anything like that? Any particular reason it wouldn't work out for day time use?

It will keep the birds in, the electricity is to keep the predators out.

I have used 5' netting around my garden 60'x70 in the spring and fall I let the chickens eat bugs and fertilize. Works great during the day.

That's a really good point, I suppose in our case the electricity isn't really necessary anyway.

I am REALLY excited to try this! I was so bummed when we couldn't afford the electronet, but man, I think this will be just as easy to move and more affordable!

Try looking up fishing nets and rigging around you - we called a place and scored > 600' of netting (8' tall, 5'' mesh, I think) for ~$120, which was amazing. They just had in stashed because the size wasn't quite right (and it was bright pink, haha). Anyway, they have awesome stuff lying around sometimes, at a fraction of the cost. Of course, have to ask for mis-specified or marked-down items.

So what do you guys use for posts? My husband wants the step in ones so they'll be easy to move as we shift the pasture around the property, but we need something that will be tall enough too.
