Okay, as far as I can tell, Riverside is part of East Providence, RI and I was able to find the city web page for them. If I'm wrong about that, the only relevant information for you in this post is the last sentence of the last paragraph. Following links on that web page leads to a searchable database for the city ordinances. Searching the term breeding animals (as I assume you'd be doing to raise meat rabbits in sufficient quantity) leads to this ordinance
Sec. 3-5. Keeping rabbits, hares or pigeons. (a) No person shall keep, maintain, cause or permit to be kept or maintained more than three live rabbits or hares upon any lot, parcel or premises within the city. (b) No person shall keep, maintain, cause or permit to be kept or maintained pigeons upon any lot, parcel or premises within the city which create a nuisance. (1) A nuisance shall exist whenever it shall be affirmed in writing by one or more persons having separate residences or who are regularly employed in the neighborhood that the pigeons are a nuisance by reason of defecating on their property, cooing, or in any other manner causing undue annoyances. (2) The animal control officer is empowered, if he finds such nuisance to exist, to serve verbal or written notice upon the owner or custodian that such nuisance must be abated. a. Should the nuisance continue unabated beyond a reasonable amount of time, set forth by the animal control officer, the owner of said animal may be punished by payment of the fines as set forth by subsection 3-10(b) and/or be required to remove the animals from the city. (i) Each additional animal shall constitute a separate offense. (ii) Each additional day that the nuisance continues unabated shall constitute a separate offense. b. The owner of any such animal convicted of violating this provision may be punished by payment of the fines as set forth by section 3-10(b). Each additional animal shall constitute a separate offense.
This is the link to the main city web page http://www.eastprovidenceri.net/government and to the searchable database http://clerkshq.com/default.ashx?clientsite=EastProvidence-ri If you look hard enough, maybe somewhere in there is a way to obtain a variance or maybe if you read the fine print there will be separate zoning conditions in Riverside. Of course, maybe I've wasted my time and there is both a part of East Providence known as Riverside and a separate municipality. In that case, if they don't have this information online, contact your local government for how to obtain zoning maps and city ordinances for your area.
