Guy I'm in a FB group with is running a campaign to buy community land in southern New Mexico.  He said:

We are on our way to starting a permaculture community for veterans in need. We have located 160 acres two miles from town for 150K. We have research partnerships with NMSU and are in active negotiations with the Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility which is just down the road. Huge implications for the future.
