Hello all!

I have a basic question about building with cob before I begin.

I live in Ireland, and although the pictures may suggest it's sunny here, those pictures are taken in a 1 week period each year It is wet, wet, wet!
As such, I would like to build the roof of my cob home first to ensure we can build in the dry, and the walls have a chance to dry as well.

My question in relation to that is: Provided I treat them with water proofing material, can I build the wooden posts holding up the roof into the cob, or would they end up rotting and leaving a massive gap inside the wall which could weaken the structure?

Thanks for your advice, and a happy Christmas!

hey niels,

welcome to the forums.

cob will dry the timber. cob likes to stay very dry, more than wood does. so it will wick moisture away from the wood.

but you might experience cracking/gaps between the posts and the gab.

good luck and blessings
