Beautiful people of Permies,

Background: the wife and I are looking to purchase 5-10 acres within an hour of Austin TX.  The land around Austin ranges from rich top soil on flat land...to limestone and granite hills with panoramic views...to lake view properties on nice green hills.

Question: I want to post a lot of properties over the next months and ask for the community's advice on pros/cons.  What's the best way to ask for land purchase advice on Permies?  Should I create one long thread?  Should I create a new thread for each property?  Should I group all the threads together somehow?  What forum and category should I post in?

Just want to make sure I follow the community rules and best practices.  Thanks.

Hey Ben! Welcome, from one newbie to another.

How's the search going so far?

(Not that I'm any expert), but I would make one thread. Then you could make a post for each parcel under consideration, and edit the first post to keep the 'current front runner' up top? Just my thoughts.

Have you seen this thtread on evaluating land? https://permies.com/t/46594/permaculture-projects/Quest-Land-advice-permies-homesteaders
One nice tidbit I took away was looking for plenty of weeds growing on the property, as a signal of the absence of broadleaf herbicide.

Thanks for the link. I'll go check it out. We've been looking for about 3 months and found a beautiful piece of property. It is in the Texas Hill County (Marble Falls, TX). That means there is rocky soil, but also pockets of sandy loam. We make an offer on Monday. Assuming everything goes through, I can finally start reading up on all the fun threads here. Thanks.
