“Rocking Knit”! Let you chair knit your hat for you.

Love this, a rocking chair that knits for you.

The Rocking Knit chair was created by Lausanne Damien Ludi and Colin Peillex, students at the ECAL University of Art and Design. At first glance, the chair looks a lot like a porch swing or glider chair. Settle into the comfy seat, and you’ll find that it takes little effort to rock back and forth. While you become engrossed in your book or phone conversation, something magical is happening above your head. The chair’s to-and-fro motion turns gears in the frame above your head, activating low-tech machinery that draws yarn up from a spool beneath the seat. As you enjoy a rare moment of relaxation, the Rocking Knit goes to work, knitting a winter hat that soon begins to emerge right above your head!

But do they sell plans?

I was wondering if it came flat packed.

It would be neat if they did have plans.  We could produce yarn dyed just right for the Jayne cob hat.  All one had to do was knit the flaps.  

I wonder what kind of sock machine they have.  It doesn't look like the cast iron autoknitter style.  It's also interesting there are no weights hanging from the hat.  Most knitting machines need several pounds of weight on the fabric for it to work.

I bet that idea could adapted to a wind machine too! COOL! I'm gonna have to think on that. I like knitted things, don't have the patience to sit and knit (or to rock.)
And if anyone gets plans, I'd love to see them, see how they worked the gearing.

My mom adds: I'd LOVE to see those at the nursing homes! Lots of folks would love to make things easily!
