Mmmm... No. They replaced the clutch too. Sigh. He felt bad about the price of the parts. He did charge the correct amount. I checked the prices before calling any repair shops.

I think that's why he did not charge for doing the cable for us as well.

It sounds like something got on a hot surface, which is definitely a concern, but good to hear it wasn't an extreme situation. The fact that you didn’t notice anything unusual with brakes, steering, or shifting is a good sign that it might not be something catastrophic. A few things to check:
Fluid Leaks
Brake Pads or Calipers
Exhaust or Oil Leak
Transmission Fluid
