So, I bought me a used scythe yesterday and am impressed by how it performs so its got me thinking, I wonder if I got a good reel mower a few other hand powered tools if folks down in portland might be convinced to pay a living wage for human powered lawn service, just a though

Seems like folks who hate the racket of the "mow, blow and go" guys would love a nice quiet man-powered lawn service.  Maybe add in pruning and planting "total natural yard care."

I think it could work if you hustle a little to distribute flyers all over.  I considered doing the same thing last summer when I lived there, but never bit the bullet.  I wouldn't mention to customers that you live far away as that might defeat some of the eco-feel good for them.

I think it is a great idea.  I have thought about it a lot and think that it would work.

You could charge the same thing as a regular yard service.
Because you have less fuel and repair expenses you would make up for the extra labor.

Now, because you can label as "eco/green" you could also find people willing to extra for that service.

Me personally, if I was wealthy, would have someone use human powered tools just because they are quiet.

A service like that often promotes itself.  Years ago I was doing some tree trimming business.  Every time I would show up at a yard to trim a tree, neighbors would stop me and ask if I could come over and look at their trees.  I was offered so much work that I had to turn most of it down.
