I can recommend Daniel Mack's books
Making Rustic Furniture: The Tradition, Spirit, and Technique
http://books.google.com/books?id=xEvGAL95tSYC&printsec=frontcover&dq=rustic+furniture&hl=en&ei=tyPiTYD2Cou6vQOc5OCTBw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDsQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false
and
Rustic Garden Furniture and Acessories
He has other books too.
The first one is by far the one I use the most - read it over and over.
making the Rustic furniture is really easy - start with something simple and progress from there.
I always measure existing chairs to get basic dimensions and dryy assemble keeping the pieces together with bungees from old inner tubes.
I dont have a designers eye  so adjust the lengths until they "look good" before final glue, dowels, pins or screws...
Its an addictive pastime - be warned !
