Hi. We rescued a duck from a less than ideL situation. We are not sure the sex of the duck. It is a Pekin duck we were told it was a male but it’s missing it’s drake feather so I’m not sure. I was told it was about a year and a half.

Thanks.

Does it quack load or just that soft quack?

It's been a looong time since I had ducks, but as I recall the females were really loud and the males much quieter.

Apart from the quack, which is usually a giveaway, look for a little curl at the end of the tail feathers. Only drakes will have that.

The noises in the video are definitely drake sounds, so my take is that he's a non-curly tail drake.

We have a female Pekin who usually just makes a quiet sort of squeaking sound and only quacks when she's either excited or lonely and wants attention (her mate died last month so that happens a lot more than it used to).

Deinfitly a male! He'd be making a much louder noise when mad/nervous if he were a girl.

The reason that he doesn't have a curly tail feather right now is because he's molted. They lose their tail feather when they molt. I'm pretty sure the molt happens twice a year, though I haven't taken close notice. But, you should see his curly tail grow back in a few weeks as he finishes growing his new feathers.

It's a male. Another male pulled out his drakes. I have a male that does that to my other one. I'm not sure if that's how some flocks do the pecking order, But I know that's how mine does.  (:
