This summer we are having another wildfire smog attack.  The advice is to stay indoors, avoid all physical activity, and avoid all smoke.  Like a small farmer has the choice of avoiding outdoor physical activity.

Ever since my pneumonia a few years ago, I find I wheeze in bad air.  Cars, wildfire smoke, stuff like that.  The smoke isn't so bad here as it is elsewhere in the province, but I'm already getting bad symptoms.  The doctor says I need an air purifier and plants aren't enough.

I want to put it where I spend most of my indoor time, in my studio.  There's good airflow, but weaving cloth produces a lot of fine dust.

There are a lot of different types of purifiers on amazon.  What features do I need?

I recommend this air strainer/ air purifier.

Filters
HEPA filters
The size, the amount of different types
Activated carbon to remove ordors

Airflow
How 'big' is the fan that is pulling 'dirty' air and pushing that air over the filters to remove the air pollution.

EDIT:
I just want to add that carpets will make your air quality worse, and it in my humble opinion, best removed.
Dust your wall, ceiling, etc with a leaf blower
Try and give away some of the collectibles in the house
I feel like beds and sofa are low hanging fruits but I need to do more research

In the end I bought a conway purifier.

The features I wanted most were
- timer to turn it off
- something that can detect air quality
- not having to change the filters too often or too expensively
- washable pre-filter
- a real HEPA filter

I haven't figured out what the ionizer does.  I could probably look it up on google.

Since I got this, I've been experimenting with having it in different parts of the house during different tasks.  Because it detects the air quality and adjusts the fan accordingly, I can see what effect my actions have on the air quality in the home.  Cooking and cleaning are the most harmful.  My crafting is usually medium.

Having the air purifier on has reduced my allergy symptoms and helped my cough considerably.  So much so that I'm buying another one.  Expensive, but I think it's worth it.  It's been a long time since I've been able to breath easily.

We have the Rabbit Aire Bio GS 2.0 air purifier for two years now and it still works great. It features HEPA, charcoal-based activated carbon and quality filters.
