It's actually pretty non-condescending for a piece of mainstream journalism, and may get quite a few people interested.

Revealing quote :
"Mr. Mollison, for example, has been permaculture’s leading figure since the late 1970s, and his books have hundreds of thousands of copies.
Yet his name has apparently never warranted a mention in this newspaper
."

I wish he'd included a description of Bill Mollison that goes beyond his age:
Shark fisherman, wildlife researcher, psychology lecturer, mill-worker, trapper, tractor driver, forest ecologist, geiger counter glass blower etc.
