Wiring a remote start on H.F. Predator 3500

Hi All;
Just finished wiring in remote start and remote stop on my Harbor freight predator 3500 inverter generator. This is how I did it.

In a previous post I descibed installing and using the "Motor Snorkel" to convert my genset to run on propane.
These instructions for remote start are only workable if your genset has also been converted to run on propane. Gasoline use requires using a choke to start.
The following photos and description show my easy non invasive way to wire in a remote start & stop switch, without cutting any wires or drilling any holes.

My generator lives in its own small shed.  I removed the left side engine cover when converting to propane. I left it off , as it is under a roof.

Start by removing the 6 philip head screws holing the cover panel to the base. Also remove one philips screw on the large start /run switch and remove the switch. Careful to not lose the screw after it is off.
The entire panel comes lose now, still attached by all the wires.
The engine start button is a rocker switch located on the front cover. On the back side is a convienent connector. Unplug this connector. Utilizing the engine side of the connector you must connect your new wires.
I purchased as small a female spade connector as I could (3/16" I think) wrapped them with electric tape to avoid unwanted contact.  One wire to each of the two connecters and run them thru the existing hole in the rear panel . They pop out next to your carberator and can be run to your momentary on switch.  Touching those two wires together will engage the starter, a very simple 2 wire spring loaded switch will now crank the motor.
For stopping.
The large black box located on the right side under the front panel .   It has 2 very small wires with a connector coming out of it which then goes into the engine harness.
Unplug this connector. It is very small.  I located and used 2 short pieces of small copper wire and was able to poke one in each hole of the engine side connector. Attatch and run 2 longer wires. running them along side the new starter wires, out past the carberator and off to your swich.
Same as the starter switch, you will need to momentarily connect these 2 wires to shut the motor off.
I used an automotive spring loaded push button switch.  

You can now reinstall the front panel. 6 philips screws and one switch with screw.    Your genset will now start and stop ONLY with your remote switches (or by hot wiring across connectors).
The front panel switches are deactivated.

We are 100% off grid, this generator is hard wired to the invertor in our home. The ability to start and stop it from indoors is invaluable!

Nice, it's definitely not much fun running in and out to turn the dang thing on and off..

I'm currently relying on a 2.8kw champion, which has the virtue of being factory dual fuel.

Unfortunately it uses a 3/4 choke setting to start on propane, and doesn't start if you don't use it. It also doesn't respond to the 'off' button when running on propane, which is a bit odd... have to use the propane shutoff lever.

Counting the days until my new batteries arrive and it can go back to being the backup plan.

Your champion is remote start isn't it ?
My last 2 generators were a 4000/3500 champion and a 9000 something, both were remote start.  Neither was duel fuel but the bigger one I installed a motor snorkel on.  It did not need a choke to start.  
Neither of them was an inverter generator though.  That seems to make the biggest difference. It runs everything easily.  

No remote start sadly. It does have pushbutton start rather than just pull cord, and until I discovered the need for the choke and the lack of functional off-switch I'd planned to rig something up like you have... oh well. Plenty of bigger fish to fry, and at least it's been a mild winter so far.

At some point I hope to pick up a better generator suitable for automatic backup use; my farm meat storage currently relies on a 100ft cord from a neighbours garage, as I can't afford to bring hydro into my property. This is a great solution unless their power goes out... I may have quite a few thousands of dollars worth of meat at risk so would definitely rest easier.
