Almost four years ago, Monsanto bought the world's largest seed company, Seminis.
http://www.seedalliance.org/index.php?page=SeminisMonsanto

Seminis supplies many large seed companies with some of their seed, such as Johnny’s, Territorial, Nichol’s, and Stokes.

Seminis (and now Monsanto) has over 3,500 varieties of vegetable seeds.  They also thought it would be profitable enough to assume the company's $400 million in debts as part of the package.  Seminis has been a major contender in genetically-modified crops for several years now.

Some new ideas on the whys and wherefores can be seen here, via the Organic Consumers Association website:  http://www.organicconsumers.org/Monsanto/seminis20205.cfm

I'm just curious what you think they're aiming for.

Well, I guess THAT was a rhetorical question.

Here's the answer.  Look at the figures.
http://www.countrysidemag.com/issues/90/90-2/Jerri_Cook.html

I found one paragraph very interesting:  "Terminator Technology promises to be a big money maker for Monsanto and its subsidiaries. Plants are genetically modified so they won't produce seed, or if seed is produced, it is sterile. With this maneuver they are guaranteed a continuing market for vegetable, fruit, and flower seed."

This may solve the problem of Monsanto's products contaminating heirloom varieties (which they have been doing since they came out), but suppose they make a mistake with genetically altering their "Frankenseeds"?

Monsanto wants to control the world's food supply so they can make as much money as possible no matter who gets hurt.
Their terminator seed is dangerous because it produces pollen even if the seeds it makes are sterile.  The contaminated pollen gets into the air and lands on any crop it wants to and corrupts the gene pool every time.  Nature doesn't choose what wind blows where and what pollen lands on what plant.
Nothing can be done about this except everyone not buying their seed and our continued lobbying against that technology and refusal to buy any of their products.
Corporations like monsanto care about only one thing.  Money.  If it helps their bottom line they will continue doing what ever they're doing and if it hurts they'll do something else.

What is so absolutely amazing to me is that a company like Monsanto HAS to know the problems they're causing.

Like the current financial mess:  The people who are behind the mess had to have known absolutely what effect they were going to have down the line. And then we had the oil companies raising the price of gas very high in a short length of time.

What did they THINK was going to happen? Was it just a matter of "I'll get mine and get out, and screw everyone else, including the whole world?"  Seems like it, doesn't it?

So now we're going to pay them off with $7 billion dollars (or more) of non-existent money which will just fuel more inflation.  And to add to the problem, lots of insurance companies want to be regarded as banks so they can get a piece of the pie, and the credit card companies are offering everyone and their brother 0% interest for a year if they will shift their other credit card balances to them, so they will be able to show more debt, and get more of the $7 billion pie.

It just never stops.

And if you folks haven't read "545 People" by Charley Reese, you'd best google it and read it.

sigh

I guess most people in this country don't seem to realize that adding a bazillion dollars that have no value to our economy causes inflation.

America's newest toilet paper, the hundred-dollar bill.

Latest on Monsanto:

they're trying to get folks and equipment who do seed cleaning out of business. Another step in making it hard for farmers to save their seed.

a new 'the latest', Ive also posted it elsewhere on this site. Where is Monsanto going? Into the White House of course....

"In spite of 20,000 e-mails from organic consumers and, in apparent
contradiction to his announcement that he wants an organic garden at the
White House, Obama has chosen Tom Vilsack, a strong bio-tech proponent
supporting genetically engineered crops, cloned animals, etc., to run the
Department of Agriculture.

As you will see below, Vilsack is truly Monsanto's boy.  He pre-empted the
local votes of towns and counties who had voted to disallow GE seeds! It's
still possible to block Vilsack's confirmation with a massive support of the
petition drafted by the
Organic Consumer Association. It's easy to sign on at this link:

or from the  Organic Consumer Association website:

Your email will be sent to your Senators and the President-Elect's office.

*The articles below give further details.*

I'm sure Obama is like every other president of the past 200 years:  If he hadn't firmly proven that he can be bought, that he can be manipulated, and that he will do as he is told, he wouldn't have even made it to the primaries.

Politicians are masters of deceit, double-talk, empty rhetoric and outright lies.

That's all true.  You don't get to be president if you're not a member of the club already.  however, it's no reason to give up.  A ton of gravel is made up one pebble at a time.  Horton hears a who comes to mind.

Is that almond roca? Did you find it in the cat box? What is on this tiny ad?
