My mistake, I was talking about cladding the walls around the heat riser with a rock veneer. However, Mr Lumley's advice about using real brick or stone has me leaning that way. I have an 8' ceiling and a carpet floor I am going to be ripping out in favor of a future hardwood floor. I'm building my RMH on a suspended wood floor but I'm in the midst of a scramble to do so as winter is fast approaching 'round here.

I don't spend a great deal of time at my home because work is three hour's drive away. My main concern is making sure I have a better heat source than the last winter as I have a disabled family member living in my home and his capabilities are greatly reduced. I'm juggling this amongst other delayed projects that are also of importance.

Many thanks,
Dave

Hi,

I'm a rank newbie and I'm starting my own RMH project in my home and have a question to ask:

Is rock veneer (basically painted concrete) a safe bet to use as a heat shield around the RMH's heat riser?

Of course, I won't be putting this inside until after it's made outdoors. Winter is closing in and I want my home to be ready for it. I plan on posting pictures soon as I gather materials. I have the the new videos for wood stoves (great information), the RMH book, and Mr. Wheaton's stuff. I respectfully solicit advice.

Thanks,
Dave

And Jesus said unto his disciples, "Whom do men say that I am?"And His disciples answered unto Him, "Master, thou art the supreme eschatological manifestation of omnipotent ecclesiastical authority, the absolute, divine, sacerdotal monarch."And Jesus said, "What?"

A mixture of Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony No. 6 with several piano concertos and pieces from the classically arranged portfolio of Megadeth.

Oh Hai ya'll!

Call me Ishm-er, Dave. I live in NE Wyoming, originally from elsewhere. I became interested in making a more responsible use of the earth around me after I was studying my Bible and learned that Job was ecologically conscious. Using him as one of many examples to follow, I began to look around. Exposure to Thomas J Elpel's and Mike Oehler's books helped me along the way as I wanted out of the big city and somewhere to start. Fast forward several years and I am finally in a serious enough place to begin putting theory to work when I am not at work. Many things haven't worked out in the way I thought they would but that is life.

In my spare time, I enjoy cardgames, boardgames (because they're more social than a silly video game), working on home projects, reading, writing, traveling when able, biking, motorcycling, snowshoeing, martial arts, my '73 Mustang, great conversation, challenging questions, wordplay, mischief, looking at other cultures, really bad movies, good movies, documentaries, and other cool stuff. Sometimes I sleep well, too. Basically, I like making things fun.

Thanks for having me around!

Versottung is sooting, in English.

I'm watching Fire Science as I type...I may have to contact Trepstar because the DVD keeps shutting off on its own or it just stops like it's YouTube and I have a slow internet connection. I'll go through the other DVDs before I say any more.

Very good info, I hear Jack Spirko a lot, too. Just got to Diagrams. TTYL!

In for a Brick. I missed the previous kickstarter by a day and almost missed this one. Thanks, Paul, for making Wood Burning Stoves 2.0 available beyond the kickstarter! It's part of my nefarious, devious, and dastardly plan to conquer NE Wyoming for permies.com. 'Course, I'm just getting started...

Watching "Fire Science" tonight.

Thanks!
