There is a "silver mine*" in Missouri Ozarks that is a natural for AC and heating. The "mine" started from the bottom and followed a slim silver vein up the hill - until they decided to attack it from the top. The resulting tunnel is about 300' long. At the bottom during the heat of summer, there is a chilly breeze coming from the opening all day. From the top, during the winter, there is no snow around the top opening because of the heat rising from it.

If you have a hill, it might be interesting to burry a pipe bottom to top deep enough to capture some ground transfer.

Grieving.
It is going to take a lot of time to level back out. You expected an outburst of emotion and a bit of thunder - understandable.
To get 'over' a death (it never is over, it will come back again and again - unexpectedly) but leveled back out to where you have your 7 year old approaching what 'normal
was, will (likely) require a long term commitment to listening to her stories about her grandpa. To get there, you might want to figure out a commemorative project that "you" are going to do - and just need a bit of help in accomplishing - or planning, or "I had these ideas, which one would be better?" to get the stories started. Until she can tell HER stories of her grandpa, then it won't be 'over'.
You might try something like Story Core on PBS, you want to start a tradition of a verbal archive of memories with family members for future family members to have.

I got a message this morning of the passing of David B South Sr., the person behind the foam and concrete dome.

How would a solar storage greenhouse benefit me here in Central Oklahoma with a fairly long growing season already?

This seems like a weird question, but how small can you make a rocket mass heater that functions like it is supposed to? Has anyone tired this?

Thinking of burying the heat chamber below the pizza stone bottom of, and exhaust piping in the walls of, a beehive oven.

Is it OK to use almost exclusively Cedar trees for your hugelkultur?  I have 40 acres here in Oklahoma and a LOT of cedar that needs to be removed.

"Stay logged in to your permies email" ?!!! I can't keep the internet up for more than a few minutes out here and am paying >$100/mo for it.

Oof.

Just another frustrating part of being out in the 'wilds' of Oklahoma.

I have a bunch of ripe tomatoes that I want to save the seeds from (they were volunteer from the year before and taste wonderful.)  How do I go about saving them for next spring? Is there a set of conditions I need to meet - to wet/dry etc?

Welcome! I am always intrigued by different hand tools. This looks beefy and handy to have around. How is it on the hands? (I have extreme  arthritis in the hands from years of woodcarving.)
