Well, I must say that I fall squarely in group 2 and semi-heartbroken. I do dabble in gardening, but don’t get the time I would like to actually dig deep up to my elbows. At the moment it’s maybe the second joint of my fingers. Sooooo much to learn. I am not in a position to be a boot this year (Life has a way of creating circumstances beyond our control), but have had it in the back of my head since I did the PDJ back in 2021. I finally have a small yard and need to configure for food growth vs decorative landscape. I figure, start small - so I planted raspberries and blackberries two years ago, this year they went gangbusters. Planted an apple tree and a cherry tree before winter came last year, and our apple tree has 5 apples hanging on for dear life. HA! - Getting my fingers dirty (as opposed to my feet wet!), a little at a time. So the heartbreak isn’t complete, but I keep pining. When my daughter graduates high school next summer, I will plan on taking time to come out to try my hand as a boot. :)

It was so nice seeing you yesterday in Sandpoint and meeting other permies.

I am a Permies “wanna be” in CdA. Learning when I can. I would love to join and have the date on my calendar!! So nice to see so many Permies in this general area!

If it is two or more days later, no harm done. (I do not want to think about clothes that have been left in a dryer for two days…) Family members can simply remove items they need from the laundry rack, saving time on folding and putting away laundry.

One thing I discovered by using a drying rack during the winter months is that it helps add moisture into the air that heating (any method) the house takes out. Instead of adding humidifiers to rooms, I hang the wet clothes and it becomes a passive method of humidifying the air. Helps relieve dry skin/eczema conditions.

Thank you for initiating this post. I’m in the same boat with all the same questions. So all the recommendations are super helpful. I’ve been perusing realtor.com and Zillow just to keep an eye on the market and what’s available out there. Something I discovered not that long ago was that Zillow has a for sale by owner option. On my phone app it’s the second tab at the top that says “other”. It’s opened a whole new world on searching. I will also get back on FB only to peruse marketplace. And I’ll check out those land watch and land search sites also. Meantime I’m learning as much as I can from sites like permies and homesteaders with vlogs while I get closer to being able to own a little piece of dirt I can convert into an amazing paradise of soil. With a cozy home, of course. ;-)

So sad I won’t be around for this class. Met Austin at the PTJ this past July 2021 and learned so much from him. Great guy and so knowledgeable about ferments. He also bakes the most delicious sourdough bread. Yum!! Hope you’re doing well Austin. Will miss seeing your smiling face. :)

I don't see your name on the roster for in-person peeps.  And I don't see where you have purchased the on-line version.  So, yes, maybe a different email address?

Well, it looks like I had a brain fart duh moment and should have clicked on the link Kirk was so kind to gift me with. Ay caramba. Anyhooo. I believe I have corrected my mistake and am now able to access the forum and the homework. Off to study I go. Gracias amigos.

Angela, what happens when you click the gift code link I messaged you? You might have to scroll down and click something to activate it.  On my Ledger page under the "course gift code" it still says "pending". The other two codes seemed to have already gone through / been activated successfully.

Oh perhaps I need to click on the link. Wasn’t sure if that was just for the live stream. I’ll test it out.

Very excited for this class and grateful for the online option!

Check the private forum for the class.

Does this help?  https://permies.com/c/22

I do not see the forum (wheaton labs garden master ) on the list on my forums page and the links Kirk sent say I don’t have sufficient privileges. Perhaps my email address need to be added on the Permies side for that forum? I may not have been given access. Is there something else I need to do on my end. Just curious.

Oh my!!! My heart is soaring. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am beyond excited to be part of this exciting forum and for your generous offer. I can only hope I am able to pay it forward one of these days.
Hi Kirk. That is an amazing and generous offer and opportunity. I have been lurking around Permies for a number of years now, learning as much as I can as I march closer to owning a little portion of this bountiful Earth that I can magically convert into a sustainable oasis with everything I am learning here on Permies.

One of the things my son and I have been experimenting with is starting plants from seed and since apples have been his favorite since he was a little boy, we found this thread/forum very helpful and insightful.

The beauty is we were able to plant two of the many saplings we started in my mom’s backyard this year to further our experiment. I will add photos and a post to the above thread after we’ve visited her for the holidays and can take pictures in person.

Blessings
