I'm curious on your place in Portugal. You're just leaving it? Abandoning it to do something different. I was just curious after reading this posting.

I'd love to come out and see what you've built. I've been trying to do something similar on 140 acres in eastern NM. And the individuals who usually reply or show up are quite interesting to say the least and to keep it nice.
But I'd like to see your place and know how it's all going for you.

Posted 6 years ago. I see these older posts and wonder how the homestead is coming along and wonder about the adventures in meeting people or persons who want this lifestyle. I have found it difficult even frustrating to meet like minded individuals.

5 boys 😵. Sounds like you are doing some amazing things there. I was working for a company in Nashville, TN and tried closing on a place outside Wheelwright KY a few years back. I ended up with 140 acres in Northern New Mexico. But trying to meet folks who aren't all about being stoned all the time or shooting everything that moves is seeming like too much to ask for. I guess there is no in-between. I see your post is a little older but I'd like to hear about your adventures and hear how your homestead is coming along.

You sound like an amazing person who has had quite the life and still so full of life. The type of man anyone would be greatful to call, friend.

Wow sounds amazing.  I purchased 140 acres with a similar goal in mind. I too have had little to no luck on finding help as wel. I have tried all kinds of work programs as well as just posting help wanted ads. I originally hoped to meet someone with similar dreams to build something together. No such luck. I'd love to see your ghost town. I've been here 5 years and feel ready to move on, to what, I'm not sure yet.

Did you ever plant Pawpaws?
I'm in zone 6 high plains, New Mexico and have been looking at trying them here.

I can hold a big singles BBQ festival weekend out at my place. WooHoo! But no one wants to go to New Mexico.  HA HA HA...!

I thought about  I'm trying to fence 80+ acres I have a total 140+ that I'd eventually like completely fenced .

I have since done more research on using tires and have decided against it after reading about leaching of heavy metals and other toxins. We catch much of our water and divert water and want to avoid a contaminated run off.
