I want to work my way up to being as self sufficient as possible. I'm planning to have my first chickens this spring, and eventually goats. I love to garden both flowers and veggies, as well as mushrooms. I draw a lot, do a little sculpting, most of my hobbies are just creative things. I also have a lot of experience cooking and baking and I really love to make food for people!

The biggest struggle is that a lot of people in my age group seem heavily invested in videogames/tv/social media and I feel a bit out of touch because I just don't gravitate to a lot of it. I stopped all social media when I turned 17 and have always felt like I wanted to do my own thing instead of watching others. I've been called "old school" and I'd say it's true.

I really want kids, a small farm, and just a peaceful life. It's  just been hard to find someone who is serious about that lifestyle and it's really important to me that we have the same goals/values. The most attractive thing to me is just if someone can talk to me, like we literally can just get along and have fun together... it also does not hurt to be handy or mechanical because that is not my strength haha.

I live in the Fingerlakes region of NY State, I'm hoping there is someone in that area that would want to get in touch. I live in a place where I can get started on working towards everything, just kinda lonely if I'm being honest!

Hi Marie, I was just working on my own similar post when I saw yours pop up. I can relate to everything you said, I just turned 30(M) and I'm a bit of an outsider in my age group for not being in on the video game and social media circuit. I avoided all those things growing up as I was trying to focus on my music goals, and since covid I've been trying to get out of the city/town into homesteading. I've got the resources to start, now I'm just looking for the person to start it with. Let me know if you're interested. I'm from Canada but I'm willing to relocate to some part of the states

Marie, I am far from your part of the world.  And I'm guessing I am far from your age group.  But I sympathize with your problems and with your goals.  What you are seeking may be unusual these days, but it is not unreasonable and it is not unattainable.

Just wanted to wish you the best of luck!

Hi Marie,
I admire you being true to yourself and the courage that may have taken. You come across as very clear. Just wanted to send a note of appreciation and encouragement. Feel free to send a moosage if you want to talk. I have raised lots of animals including chickens and goats over the years. I’m 44. I own a 6 acre homestead on a small island in Washington State. I have been on this land just a few years. I started lots of projects initially and got a bit overwhelmed. Now I’m simplifying and working on design and how to have more people live here with me in a harmonious way. Learning how to do it together feels like sacred work and it calls my heart. Thanks for your share!

Hello

You dont have to feel alone. There are many people looking to build a homestead and live as comfortably as they can. Its hard but it will pay off.

It can be difficult to find a partner if you keep a narrow age gap and unwilling to consider relocation. As you have probably discovered, not many people want to homestead.
I thought I had someone, but about 3 weeks after buying acreage she decided she didn't want to live this way. I've been doing what I can by myself for 6 years now and starting to tire of doing it alone.
