This is a badge bit (
BB) that is part of the
PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the iron badge in
Animal Care.
For this Badge Bit, you will breed and nurture honeybees!

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- all general requirements stated for the
Animal Care Iron Badge
- all requirements in the Animal Care Iron Badge specified under the section "Provide proof that you are breeding and nurturing 12 animal species"
- Prove you are nurturing your honeybees
- Pics and description of pollinator planting
- Pics of tens of thousands of blooms at 2 points in each season (six pics total)
- at least 12 species blooming per season
- species must be ones that attract honeybees
- within 150 feet of the hive (about two acres)
- Pictures and description of your bear protection system
- Pictures and description of your additional winter insulation system
- No paint on hive

Bee hut or equivalent system for shade, rain and snow protection
- Hive(s) at least 1 foot off of the ground
- Each colony must come from a wild swarm
- Same colony occupies your hive for 2 years
- Prove that your colony swarmed at least once
- Each hive is at least 200 feet from any other hive
To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must provide proof of the following as pictures or
video (<2 mins):
- photo essay about nurturing the fish (must include all of the above stated requirements)
- parasite checks throughout the season
- proof of pampering the honeybees that approaches level 7
