This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Textiles.

For this BB, you will add a gusset to a garment (eg. underarms or crotch) to make the garment fit better!

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- add a gusset to pants or shirt

To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or a video (less than two minutes):
- your item of clothing before adding the gusset
- show the tools and materials you will use for the repair
- gusset making in progress
- your item of clothing with the finished gusset on a body

I've been needing to do this for at least 14 years. Back in 9th grade, we all made medieval garb. I kept my gown, and I never really got any taller...but my bust did grow and the gown no longer fit!

gown with surcoat, back in 2000. ♪ In the year 2000! ♫

Fast-forward 21 years, and the back of the dress looks like this, while my front is squished. No fun!

pretty sure this is not how it should be laced...

Soooo, I went to the sides and seem-ripped down

before
opening side seam for gusset
and after

To figure out the gusset size, I put the dress on and pinned the extra cloth (thanks, Mom, for saving the extra cloth!) on the gap. Then I cut the seam allowance, and used that as a pattern to cut the cloth for the other side.

I should have sewed it a bit tighter, as it's a bit baggy. But, I can finally wear my dress, and the sides are pretty unnoticiable most of the time

gusset installed!

And now for after pictures!

it now laces up tightly in the back!

and my front is no longer squished! Success!
