This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Textiles.
For this BB, you will cane a chair by hand.
"Wicker," "caned," and "woven" are popular terms for chairs on which reed or fiber webbing forms either the seat or the back of the chair. These terms are often used interchangably, but when they need repair it's important to understand which one you're working with.
Hand caning is traditional hole-to-hole caning. The following articles and videos will show you how to cane a chair.
To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- Caning a chair by hand.
To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or a video (less than two minutes):
- The chair with the broken or missing caning.
- Removing the broken caning.
- The materials you will use for the repair.
- You making the repair.
- Your newly caned chair.
