This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in Woodland Care.

By now you have cut down a number of trees and feel fairly comfortable with a chain saw.  The ultimate tree cutting skill is to get up in the tree (safely) and bring it down from above.  This is not for the faint of heart and you probably shouldn't even think of trying it...

Here's a guy who's done this before:

Minimum requirements:
  - Cut down a tree starting at the top
  - At least 24" in diameter
  - Remove branches
  - Cut top off
  - Cut chunks off until the tree is all down
  - Using a boom lift is also allowed

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - Tree before you begin
  - Explain why you need to climb this particular tree
  - Climbing gear or lift equipment
  - Tree with branches removed
  - Tree on the ground
  - Stump showing size
