This is a badge bit (
BB) that is part of the
PEM curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in
Round Wood Woodworking.
Some of the joy and aggravation of working with round
wood is triangulating strange angles and intersections. As you do more of it, your guesses start to get better and it seems like you know what you're doing. Let's start connecting sticks in awkward angles to make a chair. This is very similar to a
Wheaton Labs rockjack, just a bit smaller.
Minimum requirements:
- Make a chair for sitting on a hillside
- Rock jack style where your butt takes the place of the rocks
- Seat is level
- At least two butts wide
- Log intersections are flattened for better contact (not round on round)
- Nails and screws allowed
- Upcycled dimensional lumber or pallet wood is allowed for the seat and back rest (if equipped)
Provide proof of the following as pictures or
video (<2 min):
- The sticks you're starting with
- The frame midway through construction
- Close-up view of the joints
- The finished chair on a hillside
- Someone sitting on the chair
