This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the
PEM curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in
Round Wood Woodworking.
As your roundwood construction skills are improving, it's time to make things that are elegant while still being sturdy. Sometimes the top of a fence can get pushed on by a loaded apple tree. Or you want a very obvious barrier for the deer to not want to jump over. Let's make a fence with an upper rail that is designed so that it won't rot and will be elegant!
Minimum requirements:
- Make a roundwood topped fence
- At least 36' long
- Top rail provides support for the fence posts
- Rain water can't pool anywhere in the joints
- Screws are permitted
- Rot resistant wood
- Post installation is part of this BB
- Rock jack posts are allowed but might not work as well
Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
- Place where the fence will go
- Posts in place
- Details of all the joinery showing how it will hold together and not allow water to pool
- Finished fence topper
