This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Dimensional Lumber Woodworking.

Dehydrating food is a great way to store it for the long term.  Unfortunately conventional ones use a lot of electricity.  Let's build one that uses the sun!

Here's one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Make a solar dehydrator
  - At least 8 square feet of solar collection
  - At least 8 square feet of food space
  - Stainless steel mesh touching the food
  - Structure of the dehydrator and food frames is wood
  - Sun doesn't shine on the food
  - Not assembling a kit
  - Walk radiant dehydrator is recommended but any design is allowed if it meets the above requirements

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The lumber you're going to use for this project
  - Midway through the construction process
  - Completed dehydrator with dimensions if it isn't obviously big enough

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
