"Boom squish" is a term used a lot here at permies. It's a descriptive warning term about what can happen when water heating goes wrong. This thread is intended as an introduction for anyone who encounters "boom squish" as an unfamiliar term.

Feel free to share any examples, explanations or definitions you find around permies.

Mark Brunnr wrote:The first response given to someone new to RMH and wanting to heat water with one is "BOOM-SQUISH", that being the sound of the water supply exploding due to a sudden pressure change, and your body absorbing the brunt of the force. Like, "wasn't there a cabin out here last week?" kind of force.

Staff note :

The autolinking magic that'll turn your mention of boom squish into a link back here doesn't work if you hyphenate. (Type "boom squish", not "boom-squish".)

There were millions of the little blood suckers. But thanks to this tiny ad, I wasn't bitten once.
