This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in Homesteading.

These days it seems like houses don't tend to get built with root cellars in the basement.  If you've always wanted a way to keep your bounty fresh through the winter, this is your chance.  Let's build a root cellar!

Here's one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Build a root cellar in your basement
  - At least 6' by 6' by 6 1/2' high
  - Ventilated
  - Insulate the walls between the cellar and the basement
  - Insulate the ceiling if heated living space is above
  - At least one light

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The place where the root cellar will go
  - Construction underway
  - Show the ventilation system
  - Show the insulation
  - Finished root cellar showing dimensions if not obviously large enough

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
