"Building Your Permaculture Property" - Accountability Group & Buddy Thread

Hi Permies!

Recently Rob, Michelle, and Takota had their book launch and online permaculture forum. There were quite a few Permies who attended and purchased their book & resource package. Yay!

In there book they recommend finding an accountability partner to help keep you on track! I wanted to create this thread to find buddies, share progress & hurdles, and share questions and concerns in regards to process described in "Building your Permaculture Property".

Yes, this is my mobile coop for my meat birds. I loved the solar door so much I got one for my later coop. They aren't cheap but I've also haven't lost any birds to wild life yet... so either I'm very lucky or having them closed in before dark helps a lot.

I'd love to have an accountability partner. South Pierce County, Washington state. Anyone near here? BTW - I'm 61 years young, have 8.75 acres to work with including about an acre of road. It's old forest that was clear cut about 10 years ago so it has some bushes and few trees. It's in the forestry program so douglas fir is a must but it's open to whatever I want to put under it. One side borders wetland.

As a Canadian living in Northern Brazil in Tropical Zone 1, my challenge is to find an accountability partner in my region. I have managed to plant from what the natives & my neighbours have taught me in forest and clear land planting. The present resources I am working with are from the Verge permaculture BYPP bundle w/toolkit and Syntropic Agriculture from Ernst Gotsch.
In the past 2 years, I have learned who to trust and to work with and in bartering our produce & work. And as a result, I am considering using this trusted person as an accountability partner, but I am hesitant b/c he does not know anything about permaculture.
I am open to any suggestions - thanks

My understanding regarding Takota and Rob's recommendation of acquiring an accountability partner is more to have someone to go through the book with. That way you can keep each other in check with completing the exercises and taking it seriously.

The person you know locally may be a good person to see as a mentor- though you don't need to initiate things as a formal mentorship to learn from them!

I can see a benefit in connecting with someone outside of your region. What they are doing on their land may be something you had never thought of doing and perhaps you could use a similar strategy on your own land. If you work with someone close to you, you likely have heard many of their ideas already.

In my mind, the greater variety of ideas you are exposed to the better.

It's also helpful to get a partner who already is excited about the book rather than trying to get someone locally to become excited about going through the book. The latter could be hard to do.

That is just my opinion, you'll need to discern what's best for you

Where did you get the solar door? I think I need one!

I’d love to have someone as a accountability partner away from my area that may have a different view and a fresh pair of eyes as this I think is the point of having one. So they do not get influenced compared to having a partner nearby. I’ll be really happy if someone would be up to taking the challenge!

Hey everyone! I have also recently started reading Takota and Rob's book and am also looking for accountability partner(s?).  
Not specifically looking for anyone in a particular area, just looking to share/ask questions and learn from others!
My partner and I brought a 2.5 hectare piece of land in the Alpujarras, Granada (Spain) a few months ago and are wanting to start a regenerative food forest and permaculture farm.
On the side we want to run a b&b/ retreat space, so we're currently in the midst of starting the renovation of the guesthouse, designing a new chicken coup, and planning tree planting for next month.
It's been a pretty dry, hot summer and so haven't been able to do very much in the way of gardening but have got a couple of beds sowed with pumpkins, beans and various brassicas. 800,000 m2 of the land is planted with organic lavender (the previous owners used to have an essential oils business) but they are coming to the end of their life span so we're slowly phasing them out.
Also just finished building first compost loo and are manoeuvring our way around smart / hygienic ways to process this.

Looking forward to hearing about everyone's projects and if you have any tips on poo / urine and/or where to start with designing a food forest please let me know

Hello!  My husband, Peter, and I are looking for an accountability partner(s) to accompany us on the BYPP design process.
About us: Peter took a permaculture design course with Rob, Michelle and Takota about 1.5 years ago (in person, blended to online due to pandemic). This year (2021) we put the first year of our design into practice. Learned a lot, grew some food, and had a lot of fun.

We now want to go through the BYPP book to review what we have already done, and keep thinking about what we still want to do. We think of this as our pre-retirement planning. We would enjoy meeting online with another couple or person who is also going through the book.

We live in a small town in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Southern Alberta, Canada. Zone 3a (in a good year, ).

Do you know if anyone started a group discussion on this? We are interested in finding an accountability partner or some other regular way of keeping ourselves on track. Not sure if I am "replying" to this post in the correct way. This forum is a little challenging to figure out, :).
