What are you using on your land to move earth around? I'd like to be able to dig and move the ground. Some of this will be in wooded areas so roots might be a problem.

I'm leaning toward a portable hoe with an ATV to drag it around the property.

I'm using a Kioti ck3510 it is a compact tractor with a front end loader and a removable back hoe. I has worked well for me so far moving dirt it might be a little big moving in wooded areas depending on how wooded they have a smaller one I believe it is the cs2010 that can also have a belly mower added to it.

If you will be using the Loader to "dig" i would recommend getting a toothed bar like the Parana bar or one of the other makes like that as it has more bite to cut through dirt and roots.

I also have a Toro Dingo its a walk behind tractor with tracks I used that a few years ago to clear an area next to my paw-paw patch to make a beer garden (a place in the woods to have a drink in the shade). They are quite expensive I would recommend renting one to try before buying one. I believe they have a digging arm attachment for it but you might be better getting a small bobcat.

We’ve been digging on our place for 30 years.

Digging with the loader on a tractor is not Mechanically ideal.  Unless as stated above you have a more specialized attachment and then you are limited to the size of your tractor. Without an attachment You can load from a pile or scrapE etc but not really dig. It’s nice to have the 3 pt though for post holes and rototilling and such.

A backhoe is a great digging tool.  You can use wider buckets for bigger digging.  Narrower buckets for trenching etc. Big backhoes do big jobs but are necessarily big And harder to move to move around and get into smaller areas. Like a tractor with a backhoe attachment or a backhoe with a loader.

We have both Backhoe and tractor but if I was going to buy another piece of equipment  I’d buy a mini backhoe.  With tracks.  Handy to have. Gets around great.  Small enough to load and move or to squeeze in areas with trees etc.  You can rent yourself out for all kinds of neighborhood projects and make a little extra cash.

There are probably farms down the road from you with equipment that works well in your area.  Guys love to talk equipment.

I have bought a 7500 lbs. (35) excavator which has a blade on the front, for my place and have found it to be a ton of help for all kinds of things. Digging, lifting, clearing stumps, moving a connex, ... I use it a lot for clearing trees, I pick them up and use it like a swabuck to to keep the logs out of the dirt. It run all day on a couple of gallons of fuel.

This is the 2nd post I've read today that refers to something called a PTO and I have no clue what this means. I hope some of you realize that not all of us reading the posts know some of the lingo being used. I wish there were at least a mention or 2 of what the lingo means, so we uninitiated readers are even better educated to the discussion.

Great question! A power take-off or power takeoff (PTO) is any of several methods for taking power from a power source, such as a running engine, and transmitting it to an application such as an attached implement or separate machine.
