Florida permies, how did you fair in the most recent hurricane a few days ago?  Also since we have a thread on here about Helene in NC but we don't have one for the other states it hit, how did folks in FL/GA/SC/etc. do in that one too.  I hope everyone on here is safe and has no damage to speak of.

We are in SC about an hour south of Asheville NC, but we only had minor damage with a few big limbs down and power outage for about 3 days. We were thankful to have a generator and gas stored. Also thankful to have chickens and fresh eggs, as eggs were impossible to find for a week or so. And ham radio! When the cell phones and internet didn't work, we still knew what was going on! We did wish we'd had an alternative way to cook besides the charcoal grill.

Glad the damage was minor for you Joy and that you've got some self-sufficiency ability there with the generator and the chickens.

Eggs and ham -- sounds like a book I know

Joy:
I'm really glad to hear you faired well -- all I heard was 2nd hand horror stories about NC, and I'm glad you were okay in SC

Well I'm a happy camper and I have two single burner butane stoves: very useful because I am accustomed to making my coffee with them during the latest frequentl power outage. (Of course I have a couple of old, caged generators and keep them maintained, with stabilized gasoline ready, and an extra spark plug. Also 120v hot plates and portable oven.)
