Hmmm... should politics take lessons from permaculture?

Two provinces in Canada just had provincial elections that had interesting parallels and quite different results. The commentator in this video has some interesting things to say about the different approaches.

You don't have to agree with the "politics" to see why I think one reflects permie approaches to situations.

Just to help non Canadians, BC stands for British Columbia, our West Coast Province. NB stands for New Brunswick which is in Eastern Canada bordering with Maine.

I know enough about Canada to know what BC and NB are -- I honeymooned at Sooke Harbour House on the south coast of Vancouver Island (*cough* thirty years ago *cough*) and one of my closest friends lives near Moncton, NB, but I don't know enough to judge whether that's a reasonable contrasting assessment of the politics. Is it?

And I assume you're saying the NB took the more 'Permie' approach to the campaign, right?

Big Paul is frequently preaching that we just need to do permaculture instead of being angry at the bad guys, so yes, the NB winners focused on what they *were* going to do if elected, rather than what they feared the opposition was going to do.

Trouble is, in politics, being sure *who* is the bad guy often seems like muddy water that could really use a functioning wetland to clean it up. Slinging more mud around isn't going to do as much good as building that wetland.

It seems that if you go back a few hundred years, political parties appeared to work more cooperatively, rather than so much "oppositional" debate. And yet, the party that wins the second most seats is called the "Opposition". I think they need a new name! Yes, it is their job to question the ruling party's ideas and plans, but to me, it shouldn't be their job to just automatically object to everything?

Permies publishing rules might go a long way in Parliament to choose better paths to a fair and productive future!

PS - glad you knew the short forms, but we have many foreign permies and I was just trying to make their life a little easier!
