Devaka and I spent a half hour arguing brainstorming about how to do the purchase interface so it is wholesome and good and excellent. Please take a look
We want it to be clear and lovely. No sleaze (Over the last ten days, I have been flooded with sleaze, especially in broken web sites and "broken" web sites and it has become brutally important to me that permies is never like that).
I'm gonna leave the price low for full pies and 12 pies for a bit.
(and I wanna express that the cost of running this site has gone up and up and up ... I would appreciate folks buying PIE)
Very nice, I like how everything is on the same page. It was a little confusing at first, thinking I was redirected, but overall a better experience and very transparent content.
I like the clarity of the button text, it makes it quite clear that it defaults to a monthly description so there's no confusion about that. I would suggest having the buttons default to a one-time purchase, and have the lower link be in bold with a "subscribe for a X% discount" and showing the price drop/difference. So the user is encouraged and rewarded for clicking the subscribe link, versus it being the default to subscribe and risking the user take offense at a perceived "gotcha". But if your metrics show that more purchases are for recurring subscriptions, then I'd leave it as-is but mention above the buttons that most people subscribe. That should minimize the risk of a perceived up-sell.
It looks clean and clear, links work, doesn't feel gimmicky or icky in any way. The only thing that bugged me was the duplicate (sometimes 2 or 3 per page) menu bar [What's pie | Pie perks | Find my pie], and how it bounces you all around.

FWIW on iphone running ios 26.2.1 i only see the "whats pie... toolbar" three times, looks like a section header. The whole thing appears as one page.

Sandy
It's been a few days, and likely some revs since then, but I'm not seeing that at all.
I checked on a mac running Tahoe, 26.3.1(a) on Firefox and Chrome, as well as on an iPhone14 running 26.3.1(a) in Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Brave (latest).
The 'What's PIE' and 'PIE Perks' being in-page anchors threw me for a second, thinking I was seeing what Sandy say, but once I understood what was up I had a bit of a facepalm moment.
I like the updated layout to make the 'subscription' bits clearer, thank you.
All in all it looks very clean across browsers I used and the buttons all go good places. A very low ick-factor indeed.
Looked at this on my laptop. Definitely don't like the tiny print toggle switch set to "automatically buy pie every month." That whole section below the three squares looks redundant and confusing to me. The three squares contain all the options perfectly and understandably. If you really want to add the reduntant area below, then ditch the toggle altogether and just have two buttons, one for buy once and the other for subscribe monthly. But I'd get rid of the redundant section entirely. It's unnecessary and clutters up the page, distracting from the purpose (purchasing pie) with thoughts of "Is this different from the square? Do I need to click on both? What's the dealio? Maybe I'll just do this later..." 🤷♀️
I'm with Donna,
I'm on a very tight budget, therefore always run like it's the plague whenever I see a button wanting a monthly subscription. Despite my budget, I will often buy/donate as a one-time thing to support a worthwhile cause.
So, I suggest having two buttons of equal size, one saying "subscribe monthly" and the other saying "one time purchase" or words to that effect.
If I misunderstood the monthly subscription button currently there, then perhaps it needs more clarity.
Hope my comments are useful to you... you're doing a great job with the Permies forum, Paul. Never seen any 'sleaze' here... which is why Permies is the only forum I belong to 😀
