Hey guys, I'm raising freedom rangers on soy free, non gmo etc. feed and I have five bags to last them two weeks until the next order arrives. How much should I ration for 3ish lb birds? Can I soak well  crushed feed? Of course I'll move them every day so they get optimal forage. Thanks, Huxley.

5 bags of feed. Rationed over 14 days is 1/3 of a bag per day.

How many birds do these five bags need to feed for two weeks?

Ok, so I was able to shorten delivery time down to one week for 80 birds. That works out to .4 lbs per bird per day so that should be reasonable.

Timber Creek Farm says that "A well known ballpark figure for estimating purpose is 1/4 pound of feed per chicken per day".

Free range chickens might need considerably less than that.

Hi Huxley,

The best way I know of to stretch chicken feed, is the fermented soaking process. Essentially every day when you feed your chickens their ration, you use something like a five gallon bucked, to start soaking the next days feed ration. This is said to increase feed efficiency, and reduce overall consumption by up to 40% without reducing daily gains or health. If you want to learn more, I'm sure you could find YouTube videos on it. Justin Rhodes does this, and I'm sure he has videos better decribing the process.

I hope that helps!
