Hi y’all, I just bought a new home in northern VT and just looking to get help with the ID of this tree. Any and all help would be great!!!

That looks like a crab apple tree, I can't be certain of the particular species though.

Im up in the NEK and we have an established orchard with a lot of older russian varieties. If its s big old tree id be willing to bet it could be something like s red astrichan or similar. Also looks like you may have some apple scab going on which is quite common up here.

Good luck on that. There are hundreds of apple cultivars.

If it were me, I'd poke around in the neighborhood and ask if anyone else has an apple tree. If they do, and if it looks at all like your tree, ask them if they know what cultivar their tree is.

I've got 6 apple trees, and I know what variety they are. But just looking at them . . . no way I'd be able to tell you.

What a small town Vermont is. I auctually grew up in the NEK and moved to the western side of the state.

It is a pretty big tree... I’m just hoping I can use the apples to make some hard cider when they are ready to go!!!

Maybe the full picture can help a little as well??

It is hard if not possible to ID from a picture like someone said earlier, but hopefully the apples are worth something. Love living in the NEK and around here there are 1000's of wild apple trees everywhere. I do not think it looks like a crab apple tree for whatever that's worth. But that tree could definitely use some love in terms of pruning, foliar spraying, and general maintenance (of course only if that apples are worth saving).
