That was economic and technical content. Homeland Security has blacklisted major Chinese tech manufacturers because of backdoors in many products. This is not opinion or interpretation - these bans are in effect now and have been widely reported. It is something anybody deploying these "appliances" should keep in mind.  That backdoor note was not even the thrust of the post. But it _is_ factual and germane.

Is there a problem with mentioning in passing widely reported and agreed upon issues with certain products?

"Mentioning in passing " can become it's own thing as someone responds to it, then someone responds to that. It can turn the thread away from the original topic quickly. In your case i believe it was associated with politics.

More topics are allowed in the cider press. It takes apples to respond or create topics in that forum. Apples are a way to earn the ability to post there.

You mention the government and trump.  Sounds like cider press to me.   I think the moderator that put it on probation made a good call.  

Please don't make extra work for the moderators.
