I have created 60 meters long and 7 feet high
berm from tree branches and rotten
wood cut by beavers, covered with soil (almost pure sand) and then covered with oxbow bottom residues (almost pure organic matter I suppose). It plays a role of a
fence (it is located on my
land boundary), it allowed me to use soil excavated from the oxbow to convert it to usable
pond. I hope it classifies as a
hugelkultur bed. Now I'm about to throw seeds on the berm, in order to prevent its erosion when autumn rains hopefully hit us after very dry summer (I'm in equivalent of US zone 6).
In a future I would like this berm to grow some produce, therefore:
- what shall I plant from seed immediately, to prevent erosion (white clower perhaps)?
- what shall I plant from seed in order to get any produce this year (salad greens)?
- what perennials I could plant this autumn in order to have some produce next year?
