Hi All;
Cruising around the co-op hardware store the last month and I spotted a cool little item. A stainless sink screen you use in place of the normal strainer.
Bought one , was so impressed at how much better they were, that I went back and bought another!
I have no doubt that bunches of you have these, but well... I guess I don't cruise the houseware aisle very often... like never...
I think its a cool tool! I'm sure my septic will appreciate it as well!

Yes, a total drainsaver! I'm always shocked when I go to a house without one. Many Airbnbs don't have them, and I have no idea how they are dealing with clogs.
I did a comparison of a bunch of them to try to find which worked best. I used a few versions of the one like above, and tried other types as well, and the type that is stainless steel but not mesh - instead it has very small holes - this type worked the best. It holds back debris but doesn't clog as fast as the mesh ones.
I like the looks of that one too. Stocking stuffers!
After my first clog, which required me to cut into my drain line and install a new clean-out, I was extremely clear with my children that debris does not go down the sink drain.
What I don't understand is that they didn't carry that conviction to their adult households. Doing dishes there is sometimes disgusting. I'd thought of finding this design for the grands to use:
