Is it ok to plant potatoes where barley was planted last?

In January, I planted some barley, which I harvested in June. I planted some potatoes a couple days ago (its december right now). I was wondering if this was the best place to plant potatoes.

Can't say how the seasonality of California will affect the result differently from the studies that were done in more northern regions.

Well winters over here occasionally reach 24 degrees here. The high generally is 65 to 75 degrees, though it's generally 55 to 60 on rainy days
